Tesla is getting ready to launch its new Robotaxi service in June 2025. Elon Musk, the Tesla boss, said the first Robotaxis will start running in Austin, Texas. This is a big deal because these cars will drive themselves—no driver needed!
A Tesla Robotaxi is a car that can drive all by itself. It uses smart cameras and computer brains to see the road and make decisions. It doesn’t need a human driver at all. This is different from other self-driving cars because Tesla uses only cameras and clever software instead of extra sensors.
Tesla will first try this with about 10 fully autonomous Model Y vehicles in a small part of Austin. These cars will have people ready to step in if needed, just to be safe. If things go well, Tesla plans to add more Robotaxis, maybe up to 1,000 soon after.
There won’t be a driver or even a steering wheel in these cars.
You can call a Tesla Robotaxi on your phone, just like you call an Uber.
Tesla owners might be able to put their own cars on the Robotaxi network and make money — maybe $30,000 a year.
Elon Musk also talked about a new car called the Tesla Cybercab. This will be a special car made just for autonomous ride-sharing. The Cybercab is expected to come out in 2026 and will be designed to work perfectly as a driverless taxi.
After this news, Tesla stock (TSLA) went up a lot because investors are excited. Tesla is now a big player in the autonomous vehicle business. This will put pressure on companies like Waymo, Uber, and Cruise to keep up.
Even though this sounds great, Tesla still has some hurdles. The Full Self-Driving system isn’t 100% ready yet, and there are rules to follow before fully driverless cars can be on the roads. But launching the Robotaxi service is a huge step forward.
Tesla isn’t just making cars anymore—they are changing how people will get around in the future. The Robotaxi service could change cities, reduce traffic, and even save money for people who don’t want to own a car.
